Well Woman Exam
Make the most of your Annual Well-Woman Examination
When most women think of their annual exam, a Pap smear comes to mind, but it’s much more than that. The annual check-up has expanded in recent years to address many women’s health issues. Current recommendations for annual screening tests vary with age and individual issues. Our goal is to provide you with the most up-to-date information. Because every patient is unique, we customize each exam to meet individual requirements.
Some of those issues we can discuss during a wellness visit are:
Birth Control: There are many options, and we can help you choose the one that is best for you, such as the birth control pill, IUD, birth control vaginal ring, condom, or implant.
Sexual Transmitted Infections: Unfortunately, many diseases are transferred through sexual contact. We can screen for gonorrhea, chlamydia, herpes, HPV, and HIV.
Preconception Counseling: Having a baby can be the most joyous occasion of your life, and we want to help you stay healthy during your pregnancy. It’s a good idea to have a pre-conceptual visit if you’re planning to become pregnant. Diet, lifestyle, medications, family history, past pregnancy problems, and current medical conditions should be considered before conceiving.
Menstrual Problems: If you’re having painful, irregular, or heavy periods, we can discuss options to help. PMS can also be treated.
Weight Control: It’s important to keep your weight in a safe zone to prevent certain health issues and concerns. We can help you structure a plan to help take the weight off, gain weight, or maintain a healthy weight range.
Basic Health Screenings: During your annual wellness exam, we will check blood pressure, weight measurement, and basic blood work to help prevent future health issues.
Cancer Screening: Cancer can be scary, and we can screen you for breast, colon, cervical and ovarian cancer.
Immunizations: There are various immunizations available for each age group. There are vaccines that can protect you from influenza, shingles, pneumonia, and HPV, which is closely associated with cervical and vulvar cancers.
Wellness exams should offer you the opportunity to discuss any other current issues, such as incontinence, depression, and sexual problems.
